Disney

As a blogging project, for a time each week I took a different Disney film and looked at the representation of the female lead in that film. I started with the ten marketed and accepted Disney Princesses: Jasmine, Rapunzel, Snow White, Mulan, Aurora, Cinderella, Pocahontas, Tiana, Belle, and Ariel.

The ten Disney Princesses.

I included Alice because sometimes she is marketed as a Disney Princess. I continued with non-Princess films, including Princesses not marketed as part of the Disney Princess line-up (such as Kida from Atlantis: the Lost Empire), and other female leads, some of which I wish were marketed as part of the line-up (such as Megara from Hercules). I’ve also included Giselle, Nala, Esmeralda, Jane, and Mia.

Lastly, I looked at the representation of female animals in Disney.

Here are the posts I have done. These pictures were made with the Princess Maker on Doll Divine. I tried my best to emulate the traditional costume of the princesses, but as you can see, there were limitations.
